Charles THRALE Exhibition programme 

Charles Thrale’s exhibition of paintings created during his captivity as a Japanese prisoner of war was first displayed in January 1946, in London. After that initial showing, the exhibition toured the UK for approximately eighteen years, continuing until around 1964.

29. The No Escape Incident

To preserve the colours all of the sketches are sprayed with a fixative solution— this accounts for a slight sheen discerable on some. Note how the colour on Nos. 86 to 90 and 114 bave faded, although they have now been sprayed.
