Souvenirs de l'Amitié, a collection of 36 exquisitely detailed miniatures by Sophia Thrale of her family and friends that she began working on in 1815. Painted in watercolour on grey-tinted paper, each portrait was glued into a leather-bound book with a decorative title page and a list of all the sitters. Sophia and husband Henry Merrik share the Hoare family crest: a fierce double-headed eagle, which bears no relation to the gentle expression of the sitters.

Landscape with Cattle by Thomas Gainsborough 1772-4
As a wedding present the Piozzis had given Sophia and Henry Merrick Hoare a painting by Thomas Gainsborough. Hester Lynch Thrale née Salusbury told Queeney:

It is a Gainsborough, scarce five Feet by four - The Subject Cattle driven down to drink, and the first Cow expresses something of a Surprize as it an Otter lurked under the Bank!

On 17 October 1807, Hester wrote of the painting …

The Subject Cattle driven down to drink, & the first Cow expresses Something of Surprize as if an Otter lurked under the Bank. It is a naked looking Landschape "done to divert Abel the Musician by representing his Country Bohenia in no favourable Light, & the Dog is a favourite's Portrait...

Sophia cannot have much cared for it as in June 1815 it was sold at Philips's in London and was later owned by the Marquis of Lansdowne and displayed in London at 1936 Gainsborough exhibition.
Note On hearing of the wedding, which she did not attend, Sophia's mother Hester wrote of Sophia's kindness and civility.
