-
Name Abigail BURCHMORE Birth Abt 1770 Flamstead, Hertfordshire, England Gender Female Residence 1841 Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire, England Grandchildren Norman Thrale (aged 10) and William Thrale (aged 12), sons of Abigail’s son Thomas Thrale, were living - in a cottage in front of St. Helen's Church owned by George Wright - with their grandmother Abigail Thrale née Burchmore, then aged 70, and described in family lore as the “grumpy grandmother.” Poor woman, a difficult husband, early widowhood, and then her grandchildren orphaned at an early age - no wonder her temper was vile; she was renowned for her sharp tongue.
