ABSTRACT OF THE WILL OF ALICE THRALE OF THE PARISH OF SANDRIDGE CO. HERTEORD. widow.
DATED. 9 October 1699. - PROVED. 23 September 1704. (Archd. St. Albans. Reg. Eling. fo.151).
Whereas I the said Alice Thrale in open Court on the 5th January 1691 did surrender into the hands of the Lord of the Manor of Sandridge William Walmond all those her two Tenements or Cottages in Sandridge Street within the Manor aforesaid with the buildings yards etc. now in the several occupations of [blank] Carter. To such use and uses as I the said Alice Thrale shall appoint by my last Will and Testament. Now my Will is and I hereby give unto my kinswoman Alice Lawrence daughter of Thomas Lawrence of Sandridge wheelwright all that tenement now in occupation of the said [blank] Carter together with the little orchard late in my own possession to her and her heirs for ever. But in case the said Alice Lawrence shall die without children the said cottage or Tenement shall return unto the Lawrences next kin to be equally divided between them on condition that the said Alice Lawrence shall pay to her brother Thomas Lawrence and Mary Lawrence the sum 10/- a piece. My Will is that the said Alice Lawrence shall enjoy the said Cottage during her life. I give to my kinswomen Elizabeth Lawrence all that other Tenement or Cottage now in possession of the said [blank] Bliss to have and hold the said Cottage for ever. In case she hath children and for want of issue to go to the Lawrences next of kin as aforesaid my will is that she should enjoy the said Cottage during her life. That the said Elizabeth Lawrence shall pay unto Phillip Lawrence and Mary Lawrence the sum of 10/- a piece.
I give to mey kinsman John Cogdell £5.
To Thomas Pead Ralph Pead and Elizabeth Pead 12d a piece.
To John Dixon 1/-.
To Richard Everratt and Henry Evaratt 12d a piece.
To Alice Turner wife of Thomas Turner one bed and bedding with all furniture belonging to it also one great chest with drawers in it.
To the poor of Sandridge £2.
The rest and residue of my goods and chattels to Joseph Ewer of St. Stephens in the county of Hertford husbandman and to Thomas Turner of St. Stephens aforesaid husbandman equally between them whom I make executors.
