ABSTRACT OF THE WILL OF JOHN THRALE OF FAYREFOLDS IN THE PARISH OF SANDRIDGE. CO. HERTFORD. yeoman.
DATED. 9 March, 1661.- PROVED. 18 March, 1662.
To the poor people of the parish of Sandridge €5.
To Mr. Draper late Minister of Sandridge if he shall preach at my Funeral Sermon 20s. or to such Minister to be appointed by my Overseer and shall preach at my Funeral. Whereas I have surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the Manor of Sandridge by the hands of William Ellis, gent. Steward of the same Manor by the Rod according to the custom there used all my customanary messuages,lands etc. holden of the said Manor to the use of such persons and purpose as I by my last Will should give and appoint etc. Now my will is and I give and devise my message and Farm called Fairefolds holden of the aforesaid Manor and all my lands etc. whatsoever holden of the same Manor to my cousin John Thrale eldest son of my brother Richard Thrale his heirs and assigns for ever Provided that the said John my cousin shall yearly pay out of the rents and profits to my late servant Elizabeth Smith spinster €l0 at four of the most usual Feasts of the year during so long as the said Elizabeth keep herself sole and unmarried the first payment to be made at the Feast first after my decease by even and equal portions.
Also paying unto his father Richard Thrale during his natural life the like sum of £10 at the same feasts by equal portions as aforesaid. That if the said John Thrale my nephew depart this life during the lives of said Elizabeth and Richard or either of them then the next heir at law to whom the Lands and tenements shall come shall pay the legacies as aforesaid.
To Thomas Thrale one other of the sons of my said brother Richard £300 at age of 21 if he shall so long live.
To Martha and Sarah two daughters of my said brother Richard Thrale to either of them £100 over and above the legacies of £50 bequeathed to them by my late father John Thrale, deceased, to be paid at ages of 21 if elther die before the legacy of the party dying to be equally divided amongst the surviving children of my said brother.
To my cousin John Wraye £20 at age of 21 if he shall so long live.To every of the brothers and sisters of John Wraye living at my death £20 the portion of the party dying to the survivors. To sister Sarah Penn widow. £100 and to each of her children living at my decease £20 at ages of 21.
That my Overseers shall during the nonage of my executor receive the rents of my lands and keep the legacies in their hands until payable.
To my friend John Brocke £5.
To my friend Henry Everett 20s.
To Robert Thrale son of Thomas Thrale, deceased late of Hamgings in sandridge, yeoman, £20 and the bay gelding.
My kinsman John Thrale sole executor.
My friends Mr. William Marston one of the principle Burgesses of the Borough of St. Albans and William Smith the elder of the parish of Sandridge yeoman.
Overseers. My said Overseers shall take the administration of all my personal estate and pay legacies and render an accompt to my executor at his age of 21. I do entreat my Overseers to see that my father's Will whereof I am executor be performed in all things not already done and I give to either of them £10.

The 8th March 1671 Commission to William Marston and William Smith to administer the goods and credits of said deceased during the minority of John Thrale nephew and executor.
